Communicating in the third dimension

Solar installation

We at Artisan are committed to a sustainable environment, reducing our carbon footprint and tackling climate change.
To this end, we have installed 11kw of solar PV panels on the roof of our factory. In practical terms, on a cloudy, overcast day, the solar installation is producing 2kw of electricity which is enough to power all of the lights in the factory and our offices. On a sunny day, it produces enough electricity to power the entire factory and all of the machinery. If the heavy CNC machines aren’t running then the excess spills over into the grid, helping to reduce the fossil fuel mix in the system.
We are delighted with the reduction in our carbon footprint and the practicalities are that it will pay for itself within about 2-3 years. After that, it is free electricity.
Our next project is to put a battery system within the building in order to smooth out the spikes and troughs in the supply. Our aim is to be over 90% self-sufficient.
If you are considering installing PV solar on your building, then we would be happy to share our experience with you and offer practical advice and direct you to the equipment provider Solartricity and installer crosbyelectricalservices@gmail.com who both did a super job.
